The Japanese Sword Arts Study program is open to all individuals ages 10 and up, interested in exploring and discovering more about the legendary sword martial arts of Japan. The class is designed as a springboard for individuals who want to get started but don't know where to begin.
Classes are operated out of MBS Fitness at 21 N Main St, Knox, IN 46534. There are no signup fees or special requirements, classes are a $10 mat fee paid at the beginning of each session.
Classes are held on Wednesday 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The curriculum is taken from classical Koryu Kenjutsu/Battojutsu (Kukishin Ryu) with all classes taught by Adam Novath. There are no ranks or titles awarded in the training, with each class covering requisite fundamentals without typical ego segregation found in American martial arts schools. Students learn combative positions, footwork, cutting, blocking, drawing, and formal methods in addition to Tameshigiri cutting of soft and hard targets (Tatami Omote and bamboo). Japanese history, culture, and philosophy is also presented with the classes.
Previous martial arts experience is not necessary, just a willingness to learn something new and take the mindset of exploring and discovering.
